My Training Background & Interests

I have been active my whole life. I have over 10 years in total of martial arts experience in Tae Kwon Do and Aikido. I completed the Lifesaving Bronze Medallion swimming level when I was 15. I have also participated in tennis, netball and athletics.

My current training interests are posture, running – both endurance and sprinting, parkour, dance, unicycle, gymnastics, indoor rock climbing & flying trapeze (to name a few!).

My Personal Experiences with Injuries and Medical Conditions

Although I have been limited in what I can do because of my medical conditions, this has given me a unique perspective and knowledge base. My interest in posture, rehabilitation and corrective exercise has likely stemmed from these experiences. My main physical challenge is:

Hip Impingement Femoral Acetabular Impingement (FAI)
It took 10 years to diagnose and a further 2 to wait until my surgery which was on 12 December 2014. I had too much bone on the femur, a torn ligament – ligamentum teres, a frayed labrum and a loose hip socket. I have been limping since the age of 16.

Because of the hip impingement, I was forced to limp for 12 years. This has skewed my posture and affected the rest of my body, causing:

Rotator cuff injuries (shoulder)
Upper back pain (between shoulder blades)Lower back pain
Neck pain
Knee pain
Foot pain
I narrowly avoided a stress fracture in my foot.

My Desire to be a Personal Trainer

Despite all these aches, pains and injuries, I have been active for most of my life and I wish to inspire others to take charge of their health and make the most of what they have. Getting into Personal Training was based on my strong desire to help others with their health. I feel so lucky to be doing something I am so passionate about and enjoy doing. The biggest reward is hearing from my clients about how my training has given them a new appreciation for their body and their abilities.
